Black Friday – No crash, No crush

Like Halloween, Black Friday is another American ‘holiday’ that’s found its way onto the South African event calendar. The Friday immediately after Thanksgiving (the fourth Thursday in November) is regarded by Americans as the official start of the Christmas shopping season and to celebrate that retail fest, stores both physical and online offer incredible discounts on selected products for 24 hours, unleashing frenzied hordes of shoppers, clogging the streets and choking the malls.
The advent of online shopping has changed the face of Black Friday over recent years, allowing bargain hunters to get their goodies without getting crushed. Online retailers experience incredible spikes in turnover on Black Friday, many by as much as 500%. The sheer volume of online buying on Black Friday often crashes retailer’s computer servers.
The savings aside, consumers of online Black Friday specials are not guaranteed satisfaction in purchase or delivery. Stocks are invariably limited and courier delays are a reality.
StartMyCar.co.za, supplier of autmotive replacement parts holds the largest online range in the industry. According to Kaylee Marnitz of StartMyCar.co.za, “South African online bargain hunters can avoid the shopping snags inherent to Black Friday, by shopping on niche sites with less traffic and greater product options within a given category.
“StartMyCar.co.za will offer incredible site-wide discounts on its workshop range on Black Friday and the four days leading up to November 23rd as well as Cyber Monday (November 26th). We have the range and delivery network to ensure our customers bag their bargains and have them delivered without delay,” she concludes.
