Watching the global ecommerce trends very closely, it’s been fascinating to see news published this week around the surprise cargo surge that could surpass last year's holiday period.

News24 reported that “freight carriers including shippers and cargo airlines say global demand is building toward a seasonal peak that could outstrip last years as more consumers shop online to overcome the coronavirus curb.”

“Overall, container volumes may dip just 2% in 2020 compared with industry experts’ earlier forecasts of a 15% slump. Many shipping lines are in turn deploying more capacity now than they did during the build up to year-end holidays in 2019.”

These facts come as no surprise as ecommerce sales continue to spike and demand for the product grows.

Week 47 in fact has showed fantastic growth over the last year and unexpectedly delivered higher sales than anticipated, especially with black Friday looming.

Online sales of automotive spares and accessories are up more than 35% over week 45 and 46, as the South African consumer persistently shops safely from their home or workshop.
