Wow, we did it South Africa! We finally made it to Lockdown Level 1.

It feels like an eternity ago, but South Africans can finally start to live in what the President has referred to as the ‘new normal.’

Sure, there are some rules that are still in place, but for the most part a full return to many of the everyday activities we missed so much, and more importantly a shift to the recovery our economy, is well underway.

Ecomm has seen a slight flattening of its initial spike generated over the past few months due to many South Africans having returned to work, children to school and a fair portion of our incomes possibly being once again spent on leisure activities.

However, it is key to point out, now that our international borders are starting to open, many online businesses ( especially the smaller startups) will be able to fully access products they previously imported and sold with frequency and to offer them back into the South African market after months of possible absence.

This influx of product back into the market will more than likely see online spike up again in the months to come as we approach the silly season and the craziness we have come to know as “Black Friday”.

I think it is important to point out that we as South Africans should do our utmost to support our local businesses, manufactures and suppliers, as we have done with pride over this unforgettable pandemic.

So as we approach Heritage Day, make sure that you remember …Local is Lekker !
