The second week of November has come and gone, the United States has a new president and many nations are returning to lockdown after a secondary wave of Covid19 sweeps its way around the globe.
The build up to Black Friday has come with no major fireworks and the consumer has been left, rather confused by some of the retail strategy I eluded to last week. It seems, to me, that most consumers are putting all their proverbially eggs in one shopping basket so to speak and holding back to enjoy the mass hysteria of purchasing in the last week of November.
This is not to say ecommerce sales have been ‘flat’ as I have had reports of fantastic growths amongst the countries e-tail giants.
Many South African e-tailers also took advantage of the singles day (11:11) and ran some very successful online campaigns.
However, across borders in China , where singles day was ‘born’ back in Nanjing University in 1993 and later turned into a shopping day by the genius that is Jack Ma, Alibaba reported an astronomical $74bn in sales on the day with a record peak of 583,000 orders per second…WOW ! This is nearly double their previous record.
So its clear to see that as online shopping continues to grow and that as Covid19 remains a part of everyday life, whether we are single or not, the safest and simplest option is to keep adding those items to your basket and having your a-z delivered to the front door.
